Because Gorgeous Hair Is The Best Revenge.

Monthly boss Q&A Lengths by Shannon hair business owner

One of my favorite things about being an entrepreneur in today's day and age is the ability to effortlessly connect with so many other amazing entrepreneurs and business owners on social media. Recently I connected with Shannon Canejo @lengthsbyshannon, owner and founder of Lengths by Shannon operated out of her studio in Toronto, ON. I read Shannon's Instagram bio and was instantly hooked. "Gorgeous Hair Is The Best Revenge". It's brilliant. It's apparent this girl boss knows how to engage and connect with her audience. From her informative posts to her before & afters, and witty hair quotes. I had to reach out to see if she'd like to do a Monthly Boss Q&A with me, and she said yes! Check out her interview below.

"My Passion is helping women feel confident when getting their hair done by myself and getting the look they’ve always wanted. #hairgoals"

s: Just so we can get to know you a little better.. How long have you been running Lengths by Shannon, and what inspired you to get started?

s: I began Lengths by Shannon about 3 years ago. I've been in the hair industry since my teen years, working within beauty supply shops and hair salons. My love and passion for hair care and styling have been with me for as long as I can remember. There are a variety of things that have inspired me to pursue my career as a hair extension specialist, but the initial factor for me was a haircut that I had strongly regretted! The first set of extensions I laid my hands on were Jessica Simpson clip-in extensions

and I never looked back since! The transformation of my hair was a complete confidence boost for me and I fell in love with the idea that I could share this incredible way of transforming your hair and creating an entirely new look. Over the years I took some courses, network within the industry, and decided to make the career move.

s: Nowadays I find it important for all businesses to have some sort of presence on social media. Which social media platform would you say your business has benefited the most from?

s: The holy grail of Instagram. I definitely try to use other social media platforms to showcase my work and will continue expanding my social media network. However, Instagram has been the platform to have benefited my business most.

s: Do you think it’s important to build lasting relationships with clients in this industry? If so, what are some things you do to maintain that?

s: Absolutely! Maintaining a great relationship with my clients is the ultimate key to my success. The focus of my service is for my clientele to have trust in not only the work that I do but also to create a comfortable and positive space for these women to unwind and enjoy the process of getting their hair worked on. The best approach I can have with any existing or new clients is to always stay honest and informative on managing their expectations in terms of quality and quantity of product. I always try to put myself in my client's position and do my best to have a listening ear while being as personable as I can be so that they can always walk away feeling great, internally and externally.

s: I noticed in your IG bio that with everything you offer, you also have “Mobile service” listed. I have to ask, what's that all about?

s: Yes. My studio is based in Toronto, ON but I definitely offer mobile services to my clientele within the GTA.

s: I know you’ve probably been asked before, but I’m always curious about this. Have you ever had a client ask you for a service/style that you honestly felt didn’t suit them? What would you do in that case to salvage the client relationship?

s: I have yet to encounter a client that has asked for a style that I felt wouldn't personally suit them. In a scenario like this, If I felt strongly this would not be their best look, I would suggest some alternatives, with explaining why I believe a different look should be the approach on their hair. Sometimes we just need to provide our best professional opinion while complementing a different approach.

s: What is one piece of advice or tip you would like to share with others looking to step into the health/beauty business, especially now after working through a pandemic?

s: Definitely network as much as possible! I would recommend YouTube for tutorials to get more comfortable in what you're looking to specialize in and from there take some certification courses.

" as much as possible!" That's some of the best advice, in my opinion. Running a successful business is all about building relationships and growing your network. Thanks for the amazing interview Shannon! If you have #hairgoals, head over to @lengthsbyshannon and give her a follow! Thanks for reading.
